Strategy 4: Focus on Scholarship and Excellence

Committing to excellence is a vital ingredient of our success. FSU enjoys strong faculty and staff leadership in broad areas that have significance and relevance to our world and its people. We must celebrate our achievements and tell our stories.

Note: Items marked with an asterisk (*) indicate new updates and accomplishments added in Spring 2026.

4.1 Communicate excellence.

  • Initiated the consolidation of all research social media accounts and tag posts to increase impact. – Please send us your news and highlights to aspire@fsu.edu!
  • Provided town hall meetings to provide updates and obtain feedback.
  • Launched a new video series highlighting faculty. "Innovation in Action".
  • Included faculty success stories in monthly research newsletters.
  • Promoted FSU Research Initiatives at more than a dozen regional and national events.
  • Launched the FSU Impact social media campaign to highlight the positive impacts of FSU research.
  • Delivered FSU to the top 55 among Universities for issued United States patents.
  • Published the 2025 Endeavors Report highlighting FSU Research Accomplishments.
  • Collaborated with APLU to highlight impactful FSU research stories.

4.2 Celebrate success.

  • Provided funding for faculty to secure AAAS memberships.
  • Hosted 2nd annual PI Reception, celebrating PIs with active grants in AY23-24.
  • Developed and implemented a process for nominations to the National Academy of Inventors-- FSU had 4 new senior members selected.
  • Held two events to honor our Robert O. Lawton distinguished professors.
  • Honored over 45 FSU and FAMU patent awardees with plaques at the FY24 IGNITE Commercialization Celebration.
  • Personalized congratulatory notes to LAR users who received new grants.
  • Created an online Council on Research and Creativity Research Spotlight to highlight successful researchers.
  • Hosted third annual PI reception and recognition event.
  • Recognized Lawton Fellows, NASEM + American Academy of Arts & Science Members and solicited faculty feedback.

4.3 Recognize the contributions of all disciplines at all levels.

  • Facilitated Discovery Days 2024 – A week-long event to celebrate research excellence at FSU.
  • Provided CRC honorary awards to tenure, tenure-track faculty and specialized faculty.
  • Presented Early Career faculty spotlights at the Collaborative Collision Spring 2025 event.
  • Presented the 2nd annual Festival of the Creative Arts.
  • Organized an event for Lawton Professors, being held January 2025.
  • Recognized faculty receiving honorific awards

4.4 Align efforts to ASPIRE.

  • Created an ASPIRE website.
  • Widely distributed the ASPIRE report.
  • Held a Collaborative Collision event in Spring 2024 aligning to ASPIRE Impact area 5.1
  • Provided the first mid-year update on Steps Forward.
  • Created a plan to provide awards for faculty research aligned with ASPIRE.
  • Continued to provide collaboration events to align wish ASPIRE Crosscutting themes.
